We are excited to announce to the community that in August, we will begin the new school year with a new name. Dolores Huerta Elementary school will welcome students through it’s doors as the fall semester begins August 22, 2018.
Delores Huerta is an American labor leader and civil rights activist who, with Cesar Chavez, co-founded the National Farmworkers Association and organized the Delano grape strike in 1965, resulting in improved working conditions and wages for more than 10,000 workers. She has received numerous awards for her community service and advocacy for workers', immigrants', and women's rights, including the Presidential Medal of Freedom. She also coined the phrase, "Sí, se puede" or “Yes, we can.” The school name ad hoc committee chose Huerta because of her alignment with our core values, contributions to the communities the school serves, and modeling of courageous leadership and commitment to building a better world for all families.
